Abstract

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) represents the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in community engagement. This article aims to describe the KKN program in Kampung Tua Tanjung Gundap, Batam City, held from July 13 to August 31, 2025, and to analyze community participation and its impact on coastal empowerment. A participatory approach was employed, involving the community in every stage of the program, from observation and planning to implementation and evaluation. The results indicate significant improvements in community capacity across various sectors. In education, tutoring and literacy sessions engaged 35 school-aged children. In social and environmental aspects, residents participated in four community clean-ups and eco-brick training. The economic sector saw 15 women trained in seafood product packaging and introduced to digital marketing. In culture and nationhood, more than 200 people joined the celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day. These outcomes reveal that KKN contributed not only to tangible community empowerment but also to strengthening social cohesion and enhancing students’ empathy and leadership skills. Thus, a participatory-based KKN is proven to be a relevant model for sustainable coastal community empowerment.
