Abstract

Morning Qur'an recitation serves as a religious habituation strategy in elementary schools, yet it faces significant challenges amid the rise of digital culture. This study examines the implementation of morning Qur'an recitation at SDN Tembokrejo II, Pasuruan, focusing on three aspects: procedural execution, cultivated religious character values, and supporting and inhibiting factors. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were gathered through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the principal, BTQ head, Islamic Education teacher, supervising teacher, and students, as well as documentation review. Analysis followed Miles and Huberman's interactive model (data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing), with validity assured through source and technique triangulation. Findings reveal that the activity is conducted routinely every Tuesday to Saturday at 06.00 AM using a classical method, encompassing short surah recitation in the schoolyard, collective prayer, synchronous Qur'an reading, and closing prayer. This habituation successfully cultivates four religious character pillars: time discipline, social politeness, affection for the holy book, and sincerity in worship. Active parental support, principal commitment, and student enthusiasm serve as primary success drivers. Conversely, inadequate parental supervision of gadget usage emerges as the most dominant obstacle, resulting in tardiness, drowsiness, and diminished concentration. This study concludes that morning Qur'an recitation remains effective in shaping the religious character of Generation Alpha, provided that school-family synergy is continuously reinforced.
