Abstract

The use of gadgets among students has become an increasingly widespread phenomenon along with the rapid development of digital technology, influencing students’ social behavior. Gadgets are not only used as communication tools but also as media for entertainment and learning that affect students’ patterns of social interaction. Various studies have shown that excessive gadget use can lead to decreased face-to-face interaction, reduced empathy, and an increased tendency toward individualism among adolescents  In Indonesia, the high level of smartphone usage among students has also contributed to changes in students’ social behavior both in school and within society. This study aims to analyze the impact of gadget use on the social behavior of students at MTs Al-Ma’arif Wringin agung The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that gadget use has negative impacts such as reduced direct social interaction, decreased communication and cooperation skills, and increased individualistic attitudes among students. However, gadget use also provides positive impacts when utilized for educational purposes, such as enhancing creativity, academic communication, and access to learning information. Therefore, supervision from families and schools is highly necessary to ensure that gadget use is more directed and does not hinder the development of students’ social behavior.
