OPTIMALISASI PUSTAKA GEDANGAN SEBAGAI PUSAT PENDAMPINGAN KEPENULISAN SANTRI

Abstract

The limited use of pesantren libraries as spaces for structured and sustainable writing assistance has resulted in low productivity of santri’s written works. This community engagement program addressed the question of how Pustaka Gedangan could be optimized as a center for assisting santri in producing publishable written works. The program involved library managers and santri at Pondok Pesantren Gedangan Daleman, Kedungdung, Sampang, using a participatory mentoring method based on direct writing practice. The activities were implemented through five stages: manuscript preparation assistance, writing clinic, reference assistance, manuscript review and editing, and publication. The results showed that the participants improved their ability to generate ideas, formulate titles, organize writing frameworks, develop arguments, locate credible references, apply citations, revise manuscripts, and prepare works for publication. At least 25 santri completed and published works in the form of books, pesantren bulletins, national journal articles, and articles and opinions in mass media. Institutionally, Pustaka Gedangan expanded its function from a reading and book-lending facility into a collaborative space for discussion, consultation, manuscript review, editing, and publication. The program also encouraged peer mentoring, as participants who had published their works began assisting other santri. The novelty of this program lies in the application of the learning commons concept in a pesantren library through an integrated writing assistance system that connects reading, idea development, reference searching, writing, reviewing, editing, publication, and peer mentoring. This model can serve as an alternative for developing sustainable and productive literacy in other Islamic boarding schools.
