This study aims to reveal the Islamic legal perspective on social interactions within the tradition of engagement. In general, society holds in high regard the cultural values that have been passed down from generation to generation. However, the forms of social interaction observed during engagement periods in Cermee District and its surrounding areas indicate a deviation from Islamic teachings. This research utilizes fieldwork methods to collect empirical data regarding the implementation of Islamic law in society, along with library research to enhance understanding of legal theories and Islamic legal norms. A qualitative approach is employed, as it is considered effective in uncovering social and cultural aspects that cannot be explained through statistical data. The combination of both methods enables a comprehensive analysis of the legal issues being addressed. The findings indicate that although the tradition of engagement is considered important and is believed to bring blessings within the community, if the practice of social interaction contradicts Islamic teachings, the tradition should not be maintained—let alone passed down to future generations. Moreover, if such interactions exceed the boundaries set by Islamic law (sharī‘ah), then the tradition falls under the category of prohibited (ḥarām) practices
