The rampant phenomenon of online gambling among generation Z (Gen Z) teenagers has become a worrying social and moral crisis in Indonesia. The ease of technological access and psychological manipulation of online gambling platforms make teenagers vulnerable to addiction that damages mental, financial, and spiritual health. This study aims to analyze how the concept of tazkiyatun nafs (soul purification) in Islamic psychology can be implemented as a mechanism of self-control for Gen Z teenagers to protect themselves from the negative impacts of online gambling. The method used in this study is a literature review with a qualitative approach. The results indicate that online gambling behavior is triggered by emotional instability, the urge of nafs al-ammarah, and weak self-control. The implementation of tazkiyatun nafs through three main stages—takhalli (cleansing oneself from shameful behavior), tahalli (adorning oneself with praiseworthy character), and tajalli (expressing the presence of Allah)—is effective in strengthening the spiritual and cognitive aspects of teenagers. Through habituation of worship, remembrance of Allah (dhikr), and awareness of Allah's supervision (muraqabah), teenagers can develop strong self-control to resist online gambling addiction.
